Ready to have the most fun AND the best exercise you’ve ever had on a bike? BikeWarsTM is a series of biking games enhanced by the audio-visual connectivity of your mounted smart phone. Thrill of the chase, wind in your face… an amazing work-out that goes down like a glass full of FUN!
First, draw your battleground on the map avoiding congested ares. Virtual items are deployed on the map. To prevent distracted biking, only a zoomed in area of the map (~1,000 feet) is viewable while moving (similar to a "radar" in video games). It's a thrill when your radar detects opponents & items on this map. The full battleground map (maximum diameter 2 miles) is only viewable while still (you must pull over). Only teammates are viewable on the full map. (This feature may not be available on the initial release, but we plan to include it soon.)
In-game audio informs everyone of what is going on (time remaining, who is “it”, etc), and allows teammates to communicate & strategize across the battleground.
Contact-free tags (“BURNS”) occur at 25-30 feet via advanced proximity detection (GPS, UWB). Hiders get a head start while the new hunter / hunter-team stays still to become activated.
In HUNTERS, there is only one hunter at a time. Whoever the Hunter burns then activates as the new Hunter. In TEAM HUNTERS, whole teams hunt together and strategize via in-game audio. If one Rider on your team is burned, then your whole team will soon activate as the new Hunters. Maximum: 4 teams of 4 Riders. In CHAIN REACTION, there is one Hunter at the beginning. Each Hider they burn JOINS the hunters (infection style). Optionally, the very first Hunter can become a Hider after first burn. In CHAIN REACTION, you can be a “Double Winner” if your team wins AND you win in points.
Points are awarded for team-work and exercise. Earn points for: distance traveled, points collected on the map, and of course: BURNING other players. Points are lost if you get burned, or go out of bounds.
When time expires, all players can pull over & stop to view the points ceremony together. Pull in the top mileage in a game for an extra mega-bonus! Then congratulate (or heckle) the winner(s).
Prior to playing the game, several items are recommended. A bike helmet (duh) is needed to protect your head. A handlebar mount for your smartphone is needed if you plan to view the map while playing (Example 1, Example 2). We strongly recommend wind guards block wind from your microphone so that your teammates can hear you clearly (Cat-ears).
Planned future versions of this game would allow players to pick up special items / abilities from the map (similar to MarioKart). Such abilities may include: Tapping or Jamming enemy communications, Invulnerability, Reveal enemy location, Bombs, etc. Perhaps someday we’ll even have speed boosts available on the map if we are able to allow the game to interact with governors on electric bikes. Future game types may include: Capture the Flag, Freeze Tag, PacMan, etc. Right now, we warn players to stop at stop signs. But some day, we hope to DETECT if they fail to stop so we can BURN Hiders and DEACTIVATE Hunters who run stop signs (It's all for your own good!).
